Will O’Wisp: Dying Breath
Will
O’Wisps are fearsome undead-spirits that seek vengeance on the living. They can
harm mortals but are immune to physical attacks and magics that are not spirit
based (Exorcism, Spirit Shield, or weapons that effect intangibles).
Usually Will O’ Wisps try to mislead travelers to some horrible hazard like the
sand of a quick mire or a deep dangerous bog. See the Will O’Wisp once was
alive, like you or I, but it drowned somehow and then returned from death
forever determined to reenact the scene of its own demise with the use of new
victims. To lure victims closer to the water, the Will O’Wisp has hidden stashes
of gems in water and then left a message of the stashes whereabouts trapped in
their dying breath. The Will O’Wisp coalesces its dying breath into a glass orb
and places it into a chalice to sustain its power. The message of where the
treasure is buried remains trapped in the glass orb. Shattering the orb will do
nothing but the message can be heard if some type of communication / listening
spells such as Thought Transfer or Clairaudience is cast. The message will
direct the finder of the Dying Breath where to look of course they should keep
their eyes peeled for lurking Will O’Wisp.
Those Will O’Wisp who died in wetlands but did not drown produce clear bubbles
of the Dying Breath. These work in the same fashion but the cache of gems is
hidden somewhere up high. Mainly this is because these Will O’ Wisp delight in
watching greedy mortals plunging to their death. Evidently, the Will O’Wisps
stalk and attack these mortals while they climb to get the hidden gem caches.
Although a good profit can be made from the Dying Breath of Will O’Wisps beware
being tom greedy or your dying breaths may join theirs.
