The Bloodwine Goblet
In the time of the
Ancients, the goblet was cut. It was dipped in the blood of the Spider and
captured the power of visions. Any who looked into the vessel would see images
of the future and of lands far away. It was passed from mage to mage until
Furlich possessed it. The Chalice itself may have been the true hope of humanity
for it warned him of the arrival of the Devourer and enabled him to find Yanti,
Pyrus, Telaras, and Herglemar. In the Age of Kingdoms, it was held by the Grail
Temple and eventually was acquired by the Great School.
Tolankar the Water-Inquisitor of Stonehaven was the last human to possess it.
His battles with the Sprites were legendary in its day and many believe that is
where the rift between sprite and human began. It was a young Prince Solon who
slew the great mage and brought the Grail to his own realm. Solon succeeded his
father to the throne in a bloody battle with is two brothers. The Chalice of
Visions aided Solon by warning him of his brothers’ treachery and aided his
military strategy. Solon later gathered several other chalices among which is
the Chalice of Purity and the Chalice of Cleansing.
For a short time the Chalice of Visions was taken from the Sprites realm by the
Arcani Bearers. When its magic was dispersed, it was gathered by Jequa in a
Sigyl and returned to the Sprite King to calm his rage. When Wren took the Sigyl
in the great well battle Solon swore vengeance against humans drowning all who
entered his realm. This culminated when Auri Lee stole and lost the Chalice of
Purity and started the Shadowglade-Sprites Realm Conflict. In the end, all three
chalices were returned to the Sprites and a new armistice was forged between
human and sprite.
