The
Rune of Allahn, the Candle Man
You see Allahn in Candle Keep. It is six years ago. He is walking down the halls
of his ethereal sanitarium to a chamber where wax pours into rune carved steel
shafts. Magic wicks, dyes and oils lay scatter about. He enchants the wax to
form into shapes and colors that has symbolic meanings: pumpkins, skulls, ghosts
and faces. His most recent batch stand drying on a wax covered cloth: trees
shaped candles, silver tapers, floral ones, red pyramids, and others.
He looks away as you hear an eerie whisper that seems a symphony of wind,
running water and song. ASo Soon!@ He murmurs. Allahn swiftly lights four
candles but instead of illuminating the room further the four vanish from view
and hover invisibly in this very chamber. They are the candles Allahn has left
to ensure his own return. He has foreseen what will befall him and has figured
out how to turn his “downfall” to his benefit.
Allahn turns it time to face a deluge of shadow roaring down the corridor. His
Spell Circle upon the floor flares to life and holds the darkness at bay, while
Allahn triggers dozens of prepared spells and sigils. One by one, though, the
protective candles wink out and the darkness flows in, snuffing out Allahn=s own
undying radiance. The Candle Man sinks beneath the dark and floats motionlessly
amidst a lightless void where he slumbers awaiting his Rekindlers, awaiting the
True Song and the Pentacle.
As darkness swallows him, Allahn's candle burns no more.
